Charles Wilkinson, founder of the Nottingham Academy
« on: Thursday 09 February 12 09:42 GMT (UK) »
Charles Wilkinson founded the Nottingham Academy in 1777 and died in 1786.

I would be grateful to know if anyone can help on some of his family.

He had three sons by his wife, Mary, all baptised in St Mary's, Nottingham:-

Leonard 1765
Charles 1766
Joseph 1768

I know that Charles Jnr. found fame and fortune in the south of England but I have not been able to find anything about Leonard and Joseph, although there is a possible marriage of Joseph to Mary Hindes at St Mary's in 1793.

Also, the death of Mary.

Many thanks,
David

Many thanks Carol,

I knew that Charles Junior used Hunnings as his middle name later in life but, for some reason, it doesn't appear on Familysearch. He lead a very colourful life when he moved to London and then Bath, where he died at the age of 84.

I had Charles senior's death date from his obituary but not his burial place or date, so many thanks for that.

It is sad to see that Charles's two daughters died so young, which was also the fate of most of his sisters.

Best regards,
David
