St. Augustine the Less - BRACE
« on: Monday 13 February 12 13:12 GMT (UK) »
Hello

The following marriage record shows up on the Family Search website:-

Joseph Brace married Harriott Bryant on 07-Nov-1807 at St. Augstine the Less, Bristol.

I have had a look around, but cannot find the details elsewhere, so if possible, could someone lookup this marriage record in the parish registers and let me know who the witnesses were?

Thanks

Hi,

I don't think that witnesses were recorded as a matter of requirement until 1813 when forms were filled in by the church.  Prior to that most entries were made in a register that had no specific form.  It was up to the writer to record what they wanted and most times it was the minimum of information.  You will be very lucky to find more than the names and date and perhaps the parish if not the one they married in.

I can confirm the marriage and add that he was a gentleman of the parish of St Mary Redcliffe and they married by licence.

Hope this hleps.

Elizabeth

OK, thanks Elizabeth.

I was hoping that the witnesses might give a few clues as to Joseph Brace's family. He was later a Magistrate and JP in Bath. The 1841 census indicates that he wasn't born in Somerset and in 1851 it just says that he was born in Derbyshire, but doesn't narrow it down beyond that. I have searched various resources, but haven't been able to locate a baptism (c1775) yet - one for the Derbyshire board.

Hi
Joseph Brace is also in my tree. I found his baptism in Bonsall,Derbyshire in 1777. His parents were William and Mary. I also found a marriage for these 2 in Wordsworth in 1756 and the burial of their twins Joseph and William in January 1757. Hope this helps. Regards Mel
