Where are these places help please.
« on: Monday 13 February 12 16:55 GMT (UK) »
Hello ,
Just received two certificates the marriage in 1863 took place in the Parish Church Panteg , and the bride & grooms residence was at  Enyscoy Panteague

The death certificate 1865 stated the deceased lived at Cwmynysgoy. ( father of the bride )  there are no house numbers on either cert just the above place names ? were they the same place .

Where do you think the deceased would have been buried and was the parish church called St Marys

The death was registered one month after the death was that common at that time, he died of old age so no issue.

Kind Regards

Mrs Griff.

Panteague, from a 19th century guide:

PANT-TEG / PANTEG, Monmouthshire

PAN TEAGUE, a parish in the lower division of the hundred of Usk, county Monmouth, 2 miles S.E. of Pontypool, its post town, and 4 W. by S. of Usk.

Reckon Enyscoy was a district with Panteg/Panteague.

And from Wikipedia:

Cwmynyscoy is a suburb of Pontypool town in the district of the County Borough of Torfaen, south east Wales.

I've just looked through the trascribed marriages for Panteg around that time 7 I can't see anything that looks like Enyscoy but plenty of instances of Cwmynysgoy. If you got the cert from the GRO, I wonder if it's a mistranscription as there are opportunities for mistakes to be made.

the name doesn't appear here

Thanks Osprey,
Sorry  had the info on the certificates the wrong way around, they were residing in Cwmynysgoy and married in the Parish Church Panteg , May 1863  names Mary Ann Griffiths - Cradock Jenkins

The death cert states  that John Griffiths died on 4/10/1865 at Enyscoy  Panteague present at the death was Mary Ann Jenkins ( nee Griffiths ) living at the same address ,  both certicates came from the GRO and as I said in my 1st post his death was not registered until 6/11/1865

Next task is to find out were John Griffiths is buried any help appreciated .

I think they are the same place but different ways of spelling them at that time .

Kind Regards

Osprey ,
Many Many thanks , I have used those sites many times but until I had the certificates it was a lot of guess work , I thought I would find him in Trevethin as I had found a baptism there for him in 16/2/1794 but then his daughter marrying in Panteg threw me, John's wife Mary is buried in Trevethin also 20/7/1876 .

So now  its a visit to the Church do you know if anyone as done MIs for it ? that's if there is a stone

Kind Regards Mrs Griff

sorry, I don't know if anyone has transcribed the MIs. Can't see any mention on the usual sites.

Panteg isn't far & if the daughter was living within the parish at the time, it would mean that she would marry there.
