Whatever happened to Amelia GANE?
« on: Thursday 16 February 12 10:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Sarah SHAW married John GANE 1st July 1825 St Mary Whitechapel.  John was a mariner who died aboard ship in 1848.  They had 8 children who I have managed to trace.

I have Sarah and 4 of their children in 1851 at HO107/1551/73/29.

When trying to find the children in 1861 I found George GANE aged 14 and Robert GANE  aged 11 at RG9/293/105/29.  There is however, another child with them, Amelia GANE aged 8.  They are listed as boarders so no relationship is shown between the children but I assumed they were siblings despite the fact the boy's father died in 1848.

I received a birth certificate for Amelia GANE today.  She was born 22nd Nov 1852  and it shows her mother as Sarah formerly SHAW, address is Love Lane which I know was one of the addresses I have for Sarah and her children and  the father is listed as Richard GANE occupation  Mariner.

There is enough there for me to be happy that Amelia is Sarah's child, regardless of who her father is ( figure that I am never going to find that out ).

My problem is ... where is Amelia after 1861?  I have searched for her using the surname of GANE and variants and just as Amelia born about 1852 and not found anything.  I have searched the BDM Indexes and not found either a death or marriage that I think fits well.

Please help.

Cheers
Karenlee

Hi

1841 HO107 / 703 / 3 / 20 / 35, St Paul Shadwell, District 3
(Shakespeare Walk?)
Is that Sarah 30, with John 11, Benjamin 8, Ann 2  ?
