« on: Saturday 18 February 12 13:58 GMT (UK) »
I have traced back to Alexander MELHUISH who married Wilmote COLORIDGE at Broadclyst in 1692. Can anybody add anything to this tree please?

Welcome to Rootschat sedgarwiliams

Dont know what information you have so will try and help,
If you require information about your ancestors its best to
put on your first post what you know so that others dont go
through lots of information you might already have as they
all do it for free.
I have looked on FamilySearch.org which is the Mormons free
site.  You should be able to access it from wherever you are in the World
I think this is your family, although the wife is not supplied on this information and only the Father.  Seemingly, the female were not  as important as the male in those days, or maybe thats just my opinion.
Children of Alexander Melhuish.  (By the way Huish is a village in Devon but I dont know what the Mel means)
Children
Alexander  chris  18/4/1693 parent Alexander born at Broad Clyst
John Melhuish  born at Broad Clyst chris 29/11/1694
Thomas chris 11/5/1697                    "    "             "
Robert    "      25/3/1703                    "    "            "
William   "       13/2/1705                  "   """
Nicholas  "       13/2/1705                 """""""
Nicholas  "       17/10/1708                "" this could be because the twin Nicholas died they often had children afterwards with same name. Also if the child died shortly after birth they were not always registered as it was not the law in those days to do so.
If you need any help further, please ask and put more information on so we know what you know and what you want to know as it means lots of time spent on things you already know.

Thank you very much and I'm sorry I didn't include all that I had.
Alexander married Wilmote COLORDIGE at Broadclyst on 14 July 1692. That is where my search stops and any information that takes me further back will be appreciated.
The information I have indicates that my line does actually come through Nicholas who married Anne Perry on 20 April 1742 at Broadclyst. Their son William, christened 18 March 1754 at Huxham married Tamzyn BROWN (or BROMAGER) on 8 May 1781 at Poltimore. Their son John was christened at Broadclyst on 21 July 1795 and he married Anne HANCOCK at Broadclyst on 1 September 1821. Their son William was christened at Pimperne in Dorset on 14 December 1823 and it was he who eventually found his way to London where his daughter married into the WILLIAMS line.

A bit later but we may have a link.

Harriet Melhuish b about 1790 (and Broadclyst seems likely) m Robert Meade, surgeon; they lived in North Curry, 4 childrren, 2 d young, the other two went to Australia. Harriet d 1835 in North Curry; Robert remarried 1836 in North Curry Elizabeth Manning (nee Garnsey), widow of Richard Manning; 3 children, one of whom d young.

I do have a bit more info if you are interested - and I would love to be able to find Harriet's origins!

Hi again,

Because Graham has put his ancestors were marrying around
the Devon/Somerset border I think this might be Alexander
born about 1663 parents.
Alexander Mellhuish married Dorothy Rowland at
Culmstock on 26th May 1663.
They did have a Alexander born 1875 at Uffculme who died in
1677 and that is 2.1 miles away from the marriage.
There is not another Alexander christened until about 1680ish
so maybe they waited to see if he survived before they paid
for the christening which had to be paid for at the Church.
They could have gone to BroadClyst to live or work as Devon
would have had occupations like farming, labouring and even
mining.  So a travelling band of workers will have existed.
If you look at Devon Heritage which is a good site and maybe
join you might find all the details you are looking for.  I did see
a great story of a Melhuish in the papers in 1916 who was in
the first World war and all his medals and honours, its very
interesting.

Graham

Yes, they did and Elizabeth Penelope Meade married her cousin, Robert Garnsey Meade, and had a big family in Victoria.
Her brother Richard Crudge Meade was living with them too but died abt age 35 in an accident.

Incidentally, Graham, I've got some more details on your Mary Hannah G and her mum, Elizabeth Hurley - pedigrees nailed down but also some interesting stories that throw light on relationships. Drop me an email if you haven't already discovered it all.  And glad to see you're not out playing golf ;)
Rob.
