Re the Marriage Witness in 1818;

William PUDNEY Married Eleanor Obrian MONTAGUE, 12 July 1818, same Church
A JOHN Pudney was a Witness.

SARAH Pudney Married Thomas RAMPLEE, 09 Jan 1823, same Church

John/Jno Pudney seems to Witness a few Marriages in Maldon around this time.

Thank you for all these replies.

Unfortunately I don't think the 1838 death can be the same James Pudney - if his burial was in April 1838 that was a full 11 months before Jane was born.

Would love any more ideas!

Hi MP.G

Could you let us know what it says on Jane's birth certificate / record and also on Sarah's death certificate?  It might give us a   bit more to go on. At the moment despite searches on various sites I can't tie up the info you gave in your earlier post.

As well as the gap between Jane's birth and the 1838 death date found for a  James,  it seems unlikely (though of course not impossible!) that he would have been the father at the age of 72....
