Statutory birth registration only started in Ireland in 1864 so you won't find a birth cert for William. You might find his baptism but to do that you'd need to know the denomination and church.

There’s a Sarah Scott birth registered in Newtownards 1872 Volume 16, page 863. There’s another one in 1871 Volume 16, page 833.

Only Mary Scott death registered in Newtownards in the years 1872 – 1881 is for someone b c 1814 who died 1875 Volume 1, page 837. But it’s a common name and if her death was registered elsewhere for some reason, it’d be hard to spot.

Am a bit confused here. Mary Elizabeth McGowan married John Hill Scott in 1860 then son William born c1861 Newtownards then "John and Sarah came to Glasgow Scotland soon after"- who is Sarah?

"child William supposedly born 1861 in Ireland possible Newtonyards, but cannot find a cert"
Civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864 so there will be no birth certificate for William if he was born before 1864.

"Sarah was supposedly born 1872 in Newtonyards, don't know if her mother came back to Ireland to have her" Is this Sarah a daughter of Mary Elizabeth & John? Newtownards is a town in County Down but could also refer to the area. Why do you suppose that Sarah was born there in 1872?
The Irish civil registration index is online at www.familysearch.org and if the birth/deaths occured in Ireland they should be listed.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi, Thanks for the information, sorry for the confusion, John Hill Scott married Mary Elizabeth McGowan, I should have said, John and Mary came to Glasgow , Sarah is there daughter, born 1872 Newtonyards, I have searched for births and deaths for Mary and Sarah in Glasgow with no luck, that's how I thought maybe they had both died in Ireland

Regards Mary
