Look up for burial in Hinckley please COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 23 February 12 13:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am looking for the burial of John Moore who died in Hinckley, Leicestershire.  He was born in 1813 in Greenwich Kent.  I'm sure it would have been St Mary's.  I did get a death come up for a John Moore of that age in the quarters but it was registered in Leicester so am not sure if that is the one -it was for 1875.
Many thanks

Lindsey

Hi Mike
Thank you very much for your reply.  I'm just wondering if the Leicester Union house is the workhouse?

His wife died in 1873 so I suppose he could have gone to Leicester to live although he had 13 children in Hinckley.  He was also a drinker as I found him a few times in the "old papers" in court for being drunk.  Really I suppose if I sent for his dealth cert I wouldn't be any better off.

I noticed that you had the plot number for his grave.  How did you get this only I have John Moore's son in law, Charles Lovell, who died on 11th January, 1888 and was buried at St Mary's, Hinckley (my Great Great Grandfather) and I was wondering if you could possibly find me his plot number please only I will be going down to Hinckley this year sometime to visit relatives and I would love to see where he was buried.

Many thanks again
Lindsey

Greeting’s Again. ….Lindsey

Now…..the Union Workhouse is another term for of a " Workhouse "
But there was also an Infirmary ward
for the poor & frail within the grounds.

Re:~  Grave plot No’, for St: Mary’s ……….or Ashby Road Civic Cemetery…..

Best if you get in touch with
The Hinckley & Market Bosworth Council.
( Cemeteries Department ).

With all your details of those you are looking for
& hopefully they will send you the Maps & Details.

Below are the Burial details for Charles …..
Seems that he could have been transfered to the Civic Cemetery …?

St Mary’s Parish Church.
Hinckley.

1888.
Parish Burial Register Entry No;. 2048.

Charles Lovell.
Abode. …Hinckley.
13th. January.
Aged. 59.

Then we get below the above entry…….

1888.
Hinckley Civic Cemetery.
Burial Register No’. 5101.

Charles Lovell.
Abode. …Hinckley.
14th. January.
Aged. 59.

So you really need to find out from the Council the finial resting place of Charles. ….

Hi Mike

Many thanks for the information ....Brilliant!!

The infirmary ward would explain why John Moore could have been there and I suppose in those days families didn't bother to collect the body.  I will definately send for the death cert because it gives an occupation and John was a brush maker - don't think there will be many of those.

Yes, Charles would have been in the big cemetary by that date but it's so big I would need a map I think.  His daughter (my great grandmother) is in the same area as my grandparents (or her name was on a bit of a broken stone) but I didn't know her unmarried name at that time.

Thanks again

Lindsey

Hi

In respect of the Hinckley Ashby Road Cemetary burial, the Records Office in Wigston has copies of the burial registers and these list the plot and section numbers for the burial (as well as the death date).  Most burials were held at the Ashby Road Cemetary after 1857 - with services sometimes held at the main St Mary's church - hence the duplication.

There are also these John Moore burials at Ashby Road, Hinckley which you may wish to consider:

HINCKLEY CEMETERY   3004   JOHN   MOORE   HINCKLEY     09-Mar   1876   67
HINCKLEY CEMETERY   2140   JOHN   MOORE   HINCKLEY     16-Aug   1871   61
HINCKLEY CEMETERY   2964   JOHN   MOORE   HINCKLEY     04-Jan   1876   57

I have some plans of the Hinckley cemetary and can provide an indication of where he will be buried if you can establish the section and plot number.

All the best

TB

Hi

Thank you very much for your reply.  I was really excited about those three deaths for John Moore that you found but according to the censuses he was born about 1813 to 1814. I'm wondering though if his family could have got his age wrong on his death because his wife died in 1873.  I suppose the only way to find out is to send for the death certificates.

Thank you also for the offer of the plans and I will definately take you up on that if I can find the plot number.

Lindsey

Hope that they are useful.

I would suggest that you first look up the section and plot details as to where his wife is buried and then use that information to look at the John Moore records to see if you can spot a match - they could well be buried together!

Perhaps Mike or another regular Wigston record Office visitor could look up the records for you.  The Ashby Road records are held on microfiche at the end of the corridor area off the first search room.

All the best.

Hi TB

Many thanks again you are being a wonderful help.  As you suggested, I will ask Mike if he would kindly look up the buriel records for Ann and the three John Moore's as I live in Newcastle now (since I married a Geordie).  As I am new to this site, what is the best way to do this please - on this post or directly to him?
