PRINGLE - Scot to Aust 1881-1884
« on: Monday 27 February 12 21:15 GMT (UK) »
James Milne Pringle came to Aust. with his bros. Alexander Talyor Pringle, Andrew Hyslop Pringle and sisters Christina Hunter Pringle, and Jean Cossar Pringle.  According to the 1881 Census they were living in Edinburgh and newsclips show they were citizens of Bathurst around 1884-5.
I have been scrolling through the ship lists on Mary Ann Warner's site but have not found them yet.  Is this the only way to find when they emigrated?
My great grandfather William Smith, and his son James Fyfe Smith had a building business with James Pringle based at a quarry in Old South Head Road, Waverley from 1888-1897 approx.  James later had a business called J M and A Pringle.

James and Alexander arrived in Sydney 3 November 1883 on board "GABO" which had departed from London. They were the only 2 Pringle's listed.

I will search for other 3.

Haven't found the others yet but I see that when Christina died in 1889 the death notice was only from James and Alexander. That gives the impression that Andrew and Jean weren't yet in the country.

20 September 1910 Jean C PRINGLE arrived in Sydney on board "Medic" which had departed from Liverpool.

If she is the same girl listed as Jane C PRINGLE with mum in 1891 then this could be the correct shipping record. I was unable to find Jean or her mother in 1901 but mum would have been around 80 by then so possibly deceased.
