Robert Wing
« on: Friday 02 March 12 18:04 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace some record of Robert coming from USA to England.
b: abt 1855
m: Margaret Ann Shaw on 26 Jan 1881 in Liverpool
d: 1904 buried in Walton Cemetery
1891 and 1901 Census have him living in Liverpool
The best bit is his father is named either Read or Red Wing and on Liverpool, Lancs Marriages and Banns 1813-1921 his father's rank is given as Indian Chief.
1891 Census - born- USA, New York, British citizen
1901 Census - born-America, Brookland. (Brooklyn NY was at some time known as)
Another branch of the family say he was a Blackfoot who ran away.
Hope someone can help, I have sub to ANC at the moment

It's strange that he is described as a British Subject on the census if dad is an Indian Chief.  Is he on the 1881 census, I can't find him?

No he isn't because I presume he was at sea. His wife is on the census (Margaret Wing, the daughter of Mary Shaw, they were boarding in 22 Tamworth St, house of Enoch Knoule)

Hi Keliekav.

Welcome to Rootschat.  hetben has not been online since October 2016. Going back to the original question - UK incoming passenger lissts did not start until 1878
