Joseph McCartney - Philadelphia
« on: Sunday 04 March 12 20:05 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I have found a death certificate for a Joseph McCartney in 1914 in Philadelphia.

I wonder if anyone can find anything else on him please during his time there, he was born in Ireland in about 1848, father was John.

When did he leave Ireland?
Is he in any census in USA?
Who was he married to?
He is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery but there seems to be a lot of them?  Which one would he be in?

Looking forward to any help.

Many thanks

Ignore the above - found the same family in 1920 and Joseph John was still living.

Can't see one born 1848 living in Philadlephia though  ???

Hi Cranstone,

Johnnyboy is the Pennsylvania expert but I will have a go at answering parts of your question on Holy Cross Cemetery and am sure John will correct me if it is wrong. Fingers crossed - I am Johns apprentice   ;)

Yeadon and Landsdowne are neighboring towns in Delaware County, which is west and southwest of Philadelphia. Yeadon borders Philadelphia.  Google Maps has Yeadon at about three miles from the closest part of Philly and six miles to Center City, Philadelphia.

If you go to Google Maps and search Yeadon, Pa. then you can zoom into see the entrance to Holy Cross Cemetery at the intersection of MacDade Blvd and Rundale Ave.

Hi Sandra

Thanks for your help, his death date and birth don't match at all do they.

He'd be 66 if he was born in 1848 and died in 1914.

Thank you for double checking the ones you found and was able to rule him out.

If he was born in Ireland, he must be on a boat somewhere going to USA shouldn't he?

He's a mystery for the moment still still isn't he :)

Many thanks
