Union Workhouse Pontypridd
« on: Monday 05 March 12 13:58 GMT (UK) »
Hi Folks

Are there any online records for the workhouse that can be accessed?

In the 1911 census I have a young girl aged 10, Emma Louisa Watkins I believe she married into my Jones line in 1927, But I am hitting a brick wall as I cannot find out if she is on her own or with any family members.

Her father on the wedding cert is called Edward Watkins.

I do have a birth for a Emma Louisa Watkins in 1905 in Bristol but don't want to purchase the cert until I can be sure or sure'ish of a name.

Regards
Ken

If you use the free 1911 index on Genes Reunited it shows her birthplace as London Kilburn

You would have to buy credits and view the 1911 image for any additional info

How old was she when she married as you mention a 1905 birth but this 1911 entry was b c 1901

What was Edwards occupation on the marriage cert?  The 1901 PRO index shows occupations

Hello Ken  :)

This site provides details of available records:

http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Pontypridd/#Records

There is a 100 year closed rule in place so you're hopefully in luck! Contact Glamorgan Archives, Cardiff.

Kind Regards
Morgan

Hi Carole & Morgan

Thanks for your input  ;)

Carole
I have renewed findmypast so will page through the workhouse census on 1911 -- She states she is 24 on the marriage cert -- Her father is down as a Miner

As for dates we all know how inaccurate they can be.

Morgan
Why do I always forget about that site when looking in other counties, if a workhouse question comes up in Lancashire, first thing is link site to question -- 100 year rule really sucks, but this is now 101 years old so I will approach the archives.

Regards
Ken  ;)
