« on: Monday 05 March 12 14:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi, l wonder if anyone has access to the above records? and if so would they very kindly look up the following marriage?

11th November 1893 St Marks Church, South Norwood
Emma JENNER & William GILES

I am trying to ascertain who the father's are?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards

Hi

South Norwood is in the present day London borough of Croydon. This area of the county of Surrey joined Greater London in 1965, so in historic terms this is Surrey not London. The London Metropolitan Archives (excluding parishes in Westminster) has the deposited registers for most Anglican churches who were part of London from 1889 such as Lambeth (now an inner London borough). It doesn't generally hold the church registers for the areas which joined Greater London in 1965. These registers are either held by the county concerned or the outer London borough, in this case Croydon.

Wikipedia usually helps with the present geography of a place and its past governance.

Surrey History Centre produce a guide to the Anglican church registers in historic Surrey and where they are deposited.

http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/recreation-heritage-and-culture/archives-and-history/archives-and-history-research-guides/parish-registers/guide-to-parish-registers-held-at-surrey-history-centre

The guide seems to indicate St Marks South Norwood (in the guide under the heading Norwood South) has not deposited its registers.

Croydon Archives would be able to tell you that for certain.

Would you like me to move this topic to the Surrey board? If it turns out you are requesting a lookup at Croydon Archives you may want to adjust your topics heading to show this.
