Uncle William's wife.
« on: Friday 09 March 12 21:34 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I'm trying to find out who William Poate married.  He was living with my husband's ancestor Samuel Payne, in 1851 at Tower Street, Portsmouth.   Samuel's wife was Sarah Smith.  The family's surname was transcribed as Paynt. William is found as Uncle William Poall b about 1806 Midhurst.  I assume he's Samuel's Uncle...?    I can't find a baptism for Samuel but I think he may be the shoemaker age 25 living with a David Payne,  20,  a mason in Alphington, Devon in 1841.
I can't find David in 1851 but I think in 1861 he is the David Payne born in Drewsteighton and living in Plymouth.  I found a post on the net which seems to be about him and a brother William but there is no mention of a brother called Samuel.  David and William's parents are James Payne and Jane Warren.
I think this is William Poate's baptism.  William Poate b. 28th Oct 1805, baptised 17th Nov 1805 the son of John and Elizabeth, Midhurst, Sussex.
This might be his marriage: IGI William Putt married Mary Warren 1/8/1824 Brixham, Devon. Extracted.  There's also a similar entry by a member of the LDS Church with the addition of St. Mary's, b about 1806 Devon and the wife's surname is Warrin.  I was wondering if Mary Warren might be how William is related to Samuel by being Samuel's mother's sister's husband.
I don't know if all this information goes together or if it's just a hash of unrelated facts.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.   :)

I do not think he was married. On the 1851 census he is described as Unmarried and on the 1861 census the space is blank

He is on the 1841 census HO107 412 2 as POOLE

Baptism is on Familysearch.org s/o John & Elizabeth b 28/10/1805 bp 17/11/1805 Midhurst Sussex

Death 1869 Portsea 2b 257 the certificate may indicate who his family were

Thanks.  Yes the death certificate sounds like a good idea.  :)
