Trouble Deciphering Visitation

Evening,

Seeking some help with the abbreviations with the below visitation for Whittingham:

In particular where it says Agnes vx. Hughe Carington & had yssue Agnes vx. Hugh Dod ...

Does this mean that his wife was the widow of Hugh Carington & by her first husband had a child Agnes who married Hugh Dod?

I think vx is ux - alternative at the time; and ux ia abbreviation for Latin uxor - wife [of].

Other than GrahamSimons note about ux (uxor) I think you have the interpretation right - she was a widow with a daughter and this was a remarriage. Hannah

The wording is less than clear. In the first instance I would read it as "Robart married Agnes the wife (widow) of Hugh Carington and had issue Agnes the wife of Hugh Dod."

I am afraid I disagree with previous reply, as I think that sentence can be read "Robart married Agnes"  and then "Robart had issue ....".

However, I would want to check both the original MS (they are held at the British Library, St Pancras) and also look at the 1580 visitation referred to.

Is there any other collateral evidence?
