The info gathered was excellent, I myself have been researching my immediate family and John Robert born in 1934 is an uncle to me. I found the name Trevithick interesting since Uncle John lost a brother name Trevelyn . I have found two birth years for Herbert Samuel, 1888 and 1890. Johns great grandfather Samuel Charles was definitely born in Cardiff Wales not Bristol, I had that confirmed by Uncle John. We here have had not much luck trying to find Samuel's parents either. I am waiting Uncle John to return to the province and maybe he knows when Herbert Samuel came to NB, if he did not arrive with Winnifred and the two children. Uncle John is 80 this year.. Great work and again thanks for filling in some of my blanks.

Thanks keyboard, I went in the wrong direction, you nailed it, on reviewing Herbert's death certificate he does list his dad Samuel as being born in Bristol, then on Nathans 2nd marriage he list his fathers place of birth as Bristol but on his third marriage he lists him as being born in Cardiff Wales, Everything you have accomplished is right, thank you I will adjust my paperwork,,have  a good one, PS The mother listed on Herbert's death certificate is Elizabeth Mary Sweet and the same name appears on the marriage licenses of the three times Nathan married here in Canada. He married Hazel Foster in 1913, He married Ellen Crannie in 1937 and married Julia Maud McGarrigle Nee Sear in 1963 at age 73.

Hi Peter and welcome to Rootschat, so are you saying the Nathan shown above with Herbert S is another Nathan, and not him?

;D Hi again, where does this birthplace of Cardiff emanate from, have you found him on Freebmd born there?

Other than that, do you agree with all of previous findings, and was he born with the middle name Arthur!

Hello Keyboard and Peter, I was looking again at the attestation papers and have copies of both, the first one was done December 1915, for the 115th Battalion, C.E.F., The second one was a Reattestation,. Stated, This man was originally attested at St.John, NB on the 14th of December 1915. to question #10 Have you ever served in any Military force, (if yes, state particulars of former service, he answered HMS Formidable 2 years. If in fact he did serve in some capacity on the Formidable I would hazard to guess it was done prior to arriving in Canada, he came here as a 14 year old. The Formidable was torpedoed and sunk in the wee hours of January 1st, 1915. The reattestation gives the correct birthdate that is listed in various other record sites, also he answers no to question 10 on that form,

I have not seen his birth certificate, but as far as Nathanlel Arthur Palmer goes, that is what appears on his three separate marriage licenses in NB Canada, in 1913 married to Hazel Foster, his POB is Bristol England, his parents are Samuel Palmer-Elizabeth Sweet,
His second marriage to Ellen Crannie, 1937 POB Bristol England, Father Samuel Palmer, Maiden name of mother, Elizabeth Sweet.
and his third marriage, 1963 POB Bristol England, Father Samuel Arthur Palmer POB CARDIFF WALES, maiden name of mother, Elizabeth Sweet, This is where the Arthur has come from , also a reference at age 73 with Cardiff Wales,

The death certificate info for Herbert Samuel Palmer, POB Bristol England , DOB November 5th, 1888, (?)
DOD March 3rd SAint John NB OCC rigger ST. John Dry Dock father Samuel Palmer Bristol England,
Maiden name of mother, Elizabeth Mary Sweet, England, this is the only reference to MARY as being the middle name, (I have my doubts,) For the marriage info on the two of them. they have at Ancestry.com as well as at Family Search,  Elizabeth Harriet Sweet-Samuel Palmer. I am awaiting the marriage license of Samuel and Elizabeth, ($38 US just to verify a middle name,) which makes sense considering her lineage, and her grandmother was named Harriet not Mary, Name of Informant, Nathaniel A Palmer, relationship, Brother I am sure Nathan was born with the Arthur, I don't think he gave it to himself, The father is Samuel Arthur and both Nathan and Herbert carry their fathers name., again it makes sense, Peter who are Nellie and Alva, I can find no mention of them here in NB.

PS In 1915 his attestation was done in St John, NB and his reattestation in 1917 was done in Shoreham by Sea, England. Hope this answers some of your queries Keyboard..
