shot in the dark
« on: Sunday 18 March 12 17:54 GMT (UK) »
Would any one from the Cheshunt/Broxbourne area know of a gentleman who was known locally as 'Gypsy Dave' or 'Gypsy Jo'.  The time I'm thinking of would be around 1958-1959. Possibly owned a garden nursery where he grew and supplied salads and veg.   Thank you AliceH.

Whilst we're not supposed to look for possibly living people on this site, perhaps if you post this in the Hertfordshire Board, there might be someone who remembers the nursery?

Hi there

Haven't heard of the Gypsy Dave or Gypsy Jo but my mum might have heard of him.  If I remember I will ask her.  But as a bit of background info you might like to know that many Italians settled in this area during the 1950s and their main occupation was nursery gardening.

Hi there thank you for the reply.

Its interesting to know about the Italians .

We have another name which may be Italian , but  I can't reveal on a public site as he may still be alive (in his 90's though).

If you could ask your mother I would be grateful.

Thank You once again.
