Charlo families Portmouth and environs and IOW

Hello,
This is following on from a thread "Thomas Plummer Boyle and wives, Portsea"

I am trying to peice together some of the Charlo (various spellings) family in the Portsmouth area. My maternal Saunders married into them.

My particular quest at the moment is to find a baptism for a Henry Charlo about 1824 to 1830 in Gosport, Alverstoke, or Portsea
Henry died in 1887 age 57 in Portsea but his age in the 1881 census puts him born 1824. In 1871 age 41 (b 1830) and in 1861 age 35 (b 1826) Haven't found him earlier than this.

At present I have him as son of William Charlo 1787 and Mary Norton who marr 1807 Gosport with 6 siblings.

William 1787 had a brother, Simon 1790 Gosport who marr Elizabeth Goorey in 1810 and had 7 children.
My Henry could belong to Simon although I don't think so.
Can anyone help me prove my Henry's parents?

hi,,there is a record in the national archives,,,documents online....re a Henry Charlo  born Gosport..it is his royal navy service record,,,it gives an enlistment date of 1st July 1853,,,and gives his birth date as 1st January 1823.

I will look it up and order it. Sounds like Henry took a few years off his age in later life.
