Is this the family on the Minnedosa ?

John W Stewart, aged 39 years born Newpitsligo - married. Farmer.
Wife Mary Ann aged 42 years. Robina aged 17 years, Charles aged 15 years, Georgina 14 years, Christina 12 years, Wilhemina 8 years, Robert aged 7 years, George aged 6 years, James 5 years, Nellie 3 years, Margaret 2 years and Agnes 7 months.
Father Robert Stewart, 61 Low Street. Newpitsligo. Scotland.

Just to try & explain that there are no Central registries/indexes in Canada for BMDs.  Canada has very strict privacy laws and each province imposes its own even further.  Additionally, some provinces are more research friendly than others so researching in Canada can be challenging.  The last available Canadian Census was 1911 apart from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta which was 1916.  As a guide BMD Records are only available for births more than a 100 years ago, marriages 80 years ago and deaths 70 years ago.  There are also restrictions on who can apply for a birth certificate. Death certificates can be released if the death occurred more than 20 years ago and the deceased would be 75 years of age or more.

So you can see from that how tight the privacy laws make it in trying to get information.

If you put the surname of the mother and middle name of the father, perhaps descendants may find you...I don't see any marriages for the older children in Manitoba Vital stats, but they may not have even remained in Manitoba http://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca/Query.php ...They likely won't appear in directories if he was a farmer, but there may be a will to be found...J.J.
