George Whatton B 1838 - Can you help find the parents please? Completed - Thanks

Hi,

I am trying to help a friend...

He has George Whatton B 1838 in Nottingham - but no parents evident.

1841C  Living with another family age 3 ?
1851C ?
1861C Married to Mary  in Baseford
1871C Alfreton
1881C Alfreton
1891C ?
1901C Alfreton
1911C Alfreton.

So, can anyone find him on the missing census  and can anyone find his parents?

Any help much appreciated.

Whereabouts in Notts?

1851 has a George Whetton b 1837 Sutton with relatives Dennis & Mary Whetton

Thanks so much for your reply,  I believe we are looking in Baseford,

No marriage cert, as don't know parents names, and I have asked my friend tonight if he has a birth cert, but not yet got a response. 
I can't find the registration of Georges birth on freebmd... so all in all very frustrated.

Cert would give Father
Death     George Whatton  Dec 1917 aged 79  reg Belper Derbyshire 7b 649
Belper near Alfreton.

On 1841 which family is he with and location ?? that may help

You don't need his parents names to apply for a copy of his marriage cert.  I strongly suspect he was illegit

There is a Sarah Whatton marriage in 1838 Basford on freebmd but quite a few spouses to choose from on the same page

However - I reckon she married Henry Barker in view of the 1841 entry you list above and George was her illegitimate son

He did marry Mary Armstrong, and I am waiting to hear if my freind had yet sent for his marriage cert. Oh, and also the name of the other family George is living with in1841C.

Well done you!  That seems very plausible, and a good explanation.

I find it so hard trying to pick up the pieces of someone else's info, hence my vagueness, but that sounds very likely.

And the reason he couldn't be found in 1851 and proof positive he was Sarah's son

1851 for Shelford - all children from George onwards b there
