Margaret Fleet (b.1824/5 Liverpool) 1851 census
« on: Saturday 24 March 12 11:05 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone find Margaret (nee Pickup) and her husband James Fleet (b.1811)  in 1851?

They were married in 1849 in Liverpool and they should have a baby daughter Jane with them.

Margaret was born in Liverpool, James in Tarporley (Cheshire) and Jane later on gives her birthplace varying between Hale (Cheshire) and Liverpool.

There may be 2 step children with her (James' daughters from his first marriage - Ann (aged about 12) and Mary (aged about 6).

Thanks
Ruth

There's a long report in the Liverpool Mercury for Friday 25 July 1851 headed "The Sausage Slander" - a court case brought by James Fleet, butcher and manufacturer of sausages, pigs head, spiced balls and pies in Liverpool

Per the 1853 Gore's directory, James Fleet the butcher then lived at 154 Park Road, Toxteth Park. That address appears to be unnhabited in the 1851 census.

Thank you Shaun and Radcliff  :)

Yes, that's him -  James the butcher.  Sausage Slander ?!!  ;D  :o

(Have discounted that baptism for Jane as Mum is definitely Margaret - when James died Margaret took on his business)

Ann Fleet baptised 19th february 1839 at St Peters ,Liverpool
father James Fleet / mother Mary
occupation Butcher
abode Trafalger Street

Mary Ellen Fleet - 1st July 1840 - same church /parents/occupation , but now living at Pembroke Place..........so I presume these are the children of James 1st marriage..

making them
12
10    ..   on the 1851 census

marriage 3rd January 1849 at St Paul ,Liverpool
James Fleet and Margaret Pickup were both residing in Tarlton Street (city centre)
James a widower - father John Fleet a gamekeeper
Margaret a spinster - father Henry Pickup a Sailmaker
James and Margaret were both of full age
so maybe we should try and find them in Tarleton Street (the correct spelling ) in 1851 if they were there in 1849....allan
oakes,liverpool..neston..backford..poulton cum spittal(bebington)middlewich,cheshire......   sacht,helgoland  .......merrick,herefordshire adams,shropshire...tipping..ellis..  jones,garston,liverpool..hartley.dunham massey..barker. salford

From that 1851 court case:
