Forge Family
« on: Monday 26 March 12 09:37 BST (UK) »
Hi

Would love to hear from anyone connected to the Forge family originally from Highworth in Wiltshire. Have a piece of jigsaw missing from our family tree which is proving hard to find so thought I'd try this route. My paternal grandmother was Beatrice May Forge born in Highworth on 16th January 1899 - her father Pharoah was born in Suffolk and her mother Mary Jane, nee Butcher was from Wiltshire. What has been passed down to us is that my grandmother had a sister known as Dolly who was younger than her. That is all we know apart from the fact she died relatively young from tb either in the Isle of Wight (Ventnor where she was treated) or back home in Wiltshire. Her parents also split up when my grandmother was little but again I have no dates etc. I have searched birth records etc., but finding it hard to gather any further information.

Be great if someone could contact me - even the slightest little piece of information might prove useful.

Tks

Was the family unit still together at 1901? 1911?

That would be the first step I would have thought.

There was a Mary Elizabeth Forge's birth registered in Swindon District, 5a/18, 1902 June quarter.   By that time Highworth was part of Swindon registration district.

Yes family still together as at the census of 1901 although Dolly didn't appear. 1911 I need to look at.

Mary Elizabeth is worth a try - possibility Dolly was a nickname? Thanks both for your contribution.

There did not appear to be any further Forge births in that part of Wiltshire prior to 1911.

Thanks Dave - it's a mystery I'm determined to resolve. The only other angle is that she was treated at a Tuberculosis Hospital in Ventnor, IOW - again I have no dates but sure there's gonna be a lead somewhere!
