1901 and 1911 census states he was born in Co Wexford but I can’t find any trace except his fathers name on his wedding cert.
Fathers name: Patrick Menton
Thomas married Mary Kelly in Rathdown in 1891 and reared a family in Dublin City.
He may have been born in some area that was a Diocese of Wexford but in another Civic County.
I have found a record for Patrick Menton, Toome Parish in Ballyduffbeg Wexford in the Griffiths Valuation from 1853 but no other details.
I have searched the civic records by the LDS but there is nothing for Thomas or Patrick from Wexford.
I need help!
UPDATE 23 12 2012
I got the marriage cert for Thomas Menton from 1891 from the GRO in Dublin with his father listed as Patrick but since then I have visited the NLI in Dublin and viewed the actual Catholic records and the fathers name was not Patrick, but was also Thomas, and his wifes name was Maria, and they were listed as being from Gorey.
This makes more sense as my family history says the family came from Wexford in the Gorey area.
The reply to this thread from jytefas relating to the burials at Toome cemetery of Peter Mentan and his family may also be my ancestors as my grandfathers name was actually Peter Menton.
I have sourced certs relating to Menton, Mentaan, Mantan from Gorey also and Peter Mentan was a shepherd who I have been told originally came from Galway. He buiult a sheep pass in the area which still stands today and apparently according to locals in Gorey today he used to count his sheep in Gaelic. I got this info from people on the irelandxo website.
His fathers name was John and he was also a shepherd.
Peter Mentan was married at least 3 times from what records I have found and the first record from 1850 in Gorey says he was a widower. The second record from Gorey was in 1877.
All help and advice greatly apreciated.
