Selwood Purchett and Bosbury

Hello,
Can someone suggest what places are meant on the following 1881 LDS obvious mistransciptions

It will probably be somewhere around the Tilehurst, Bradfield area but I have run out of ideas.

Jane SELWOOD   Dau   U   Female   8   Purchett, Berkshire, England   Scholar  
 James SELWOOD   Son   U   Male   3   Bosbury, Berkshire, England   Scholar  

I have tried the obvious of looking at the actual page and comparing the letters, the places do look like Purchett and Bosbury. Somehow the enumerator has also got father Isaac Selwood clearly as Jacob.

In 1891  Jane says born Reading and James born Ham Surrey, which is where they were living in 1881 and onwards.

I would like to find their baptisms but don't know where to look.

Have you found their births in Free BMD?
It may give a clue to the county.

Hello,
Both said Berkshire. I have not found James' registration but Jane's was in Bradfield Reg Dist.

Could Purchett be Purley and Bosbury be Bucklebury? Both are in the Bradfield Regd. Dist.

I lived in Tilehurst for a number of years and the places you listed don't mean much to me.

FreeBMD has a birth reg. for James Selwood in Jun 1/4 1876  Farnham in Surrey Vol.2a Page 108 + image - could
this be him?

Hello Alan,
Those were two of my thoughts, too. I think I will have to bite the bullet again and get the 1873 certificate for Jane.  I don't think the Farnham one for James is the right one but I will look into it. Thanks.
This whole scion is driving me nuts and costing a fortune. Isaac was my grandad's uncle born 1819 Englefield. Between him not knowing (or telling fibs) about his age and the 1881 enumerator making a pigs ear of transcribing on to his sheet (ditto the LDS)..........!
In 1871 the family were in Sulham. His second wife Ann Beckenham was 17 when he married her at aged 43 .  He died in 1888 having fathered 13 children.
