Personally, I don't worry about it, but you can edit the title of your first post to include "COMPLETED" if you wish. :)
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Sonja, I think this building is or was later the Kendal Youth Hostel, so some of the records may be mixed up with the Youth Hostel Association but probably just administrative records not lists of those staying there.

It was the Youth Hostel but has been a hotel for many years now. I think Geoff's suggestion of contacting the Records Office is the best idea.

Hi Jen

I see you have Jackson's in your names.  I think my gm was Annie Glover Jackson, who I believe was in the Orphanage - Born 1889/90 - Thought she may have been orphaned at birth, but still digging.  Do you show any female deaths at this time in your area in your tree?

I'm sorry, Sonja, my Jacksons are from a different part of Westmorland and many generations back so I can't help on this one. You have my sympathies as there are so many Jacksons in this part of the world.

You say that you think she is your grandmother - do you have her named on any official document ( birth or marriage certificate) and have you found her in any censuses?

I have her name on my Mums birth certificate Aug 1921. no fathers name.  However, my Mum was born in Northleach Glos.

Through other Roots members they threw me a link to your neck of the woods and the trail seems to be warming up.

Annie Glover Jackson is showing as an inmate in the orphanage in the 1911 C and I think she married David A Wilks in 1930.

Had two children David A in 1930 and Margaret 1n 1934 - I can then trace them on a bit, being I have the right family line to start with that is !!

I have only put all this together over the last few nights and have not had a chance to look at ordering certificate to try and prove it as yet.

As my Mum never knew her Mum it was difficult to try and put the pieces together.

Oh ! and I think she died in Chippin Norton Oxf in 1970, which ties her close back to the area that she had Mum.

The only birth registration I can see for Annie Glover Jackson is: Jun 1900/Kendal/10b, 757

You said she was born 1890-ish but could this be yours? If so, sending for her birth certificate will give you her parents' names.

I think that was the one I found, which links into my other findings, so it looks like that after 18 yrs I could be on to something, Shame Mum died before I got there  :(
and I had to move to Australia before it became an undying urge to trace the family.

At least if I get the birth cert it should give me my GGM details if not my GGF

Can you advise best place to get certs ?

Thanks for your help.

I get mine from the GRO:  www.gro.gov.uk

It's easy to register and I've never had any problems with ordering. Costs £9.25 for each certificate.

Jen :)
