John Crooks death
« on: Saturday 31 March 12 12:43 BST (UK) »
John Crooks was born 1855 in Pleasley, Mansfield. He married in Sheffield to Julia in 1876. and stayed in Sheffield the rest of his life.
He was a groom, coachman, ostler and family story has it he was kicked to death by a horse. We cannot find his death. His wife is married in 1901 but we cannot find him so he could be in hospital.
By 1911 Julia is a widow.

The free index to the 1911 census suggests that a John Crooks matching his description may have been in the Worksop area.  Perhaps the story of a fatal equine accident was a concoction to cover up for Julia's having been abandoned?

There is also a death of a 78-yr-old John Crooks in Mansfield in Mar qtr 1933 - a possibility if he had gone back to his roots?
