Towse family of Heckfield
« on: Monday 02 April 12 23:50 BST (UK) »
On the 3 Sept 1747 John Towse (or Touse) married Sarah Burgiss in Heckfield, Hampshire.  According to IGI and transcriptions at FindmyPast they had nine children: John (1748), Katherine (1750), Joseph (1752), Mary (1755), William (1757-1757), James (1758-1839), Elizabeth (1761), Sarah (1764-1850) and Fanny (1767-1787).

Sarah married Tryal Englefield and became my xtimes grandmother.  She seems to have named her daughters after her sisters.

But I'm wondering what happened to her siblings.  Does anyone know how I can find out?

Thanks! Laverdiere

When you get that far back its mostly a case of trying the websites such as the IGI, Family Search, TNA Catalogue, a2a website, TNA Documents on-line, Hampshire Archives, Newspapers and Google/Google Books plus Ancestry or FindMyPast if you have a sub to try and find BMD, Wills, Apprentice records, mortgage records and other items to piece together what became of the family.

The above website has several references to the Towse/Touse name which might be related to your family.

Hi

Besides the list of names that you already listed these are Baptisms in Heckfield for TOWSE between 1752 and 1837 All children of JAMES & MIRIAM

6DEC1801    WILLIAM
31JAN1803    DAVID
18NOV1804   SARAH
21JUN1807    FRANCES
19FEB1809    JAMES
25DEC1810    ELIZABETH
30APR1815    MARTHA
14NOV1819    EMMA

There was another Baptism at Hartley Wintney
31AUG1757  MARY TOUSE d/o DAVID

And a Burial at Heckfield
8OCT1757  WILLIAM TOUSE

And some Marriages
24SEP1705  EDWARD TOWSE to MARY GROVER  Hartley Wintney
20JUL1775   DAVID TOWSE [Wid] to ELISABETH KNIGHT Bentley

There seem to be large gaps in some of these dates so perhaps they were moving in and out of Hampshire.

Hope that helps
