Frank R Lees
« on: Friday 06 April 12 11:56 BST (UK) »
Hi

Wondering if anybody can find any information on the above who appears to have emigrated from England in 1910.

He left London on 4 Feb 1910 on the ship 'Iconic', for Wellington. His occupation  was shown as Joiner.

If he was who I think he was, he would have been born 1888 in Rixton, Lancashire and his middle name would have been Robert.

He was shown as travelling unaccompanied, so may well have been married not long after arriving in New Zealand.

Heres hoping-Eric.

Hi Eric,

We have some Frank Lees and Robert Lees on ER, but none with both names.
Same for marriages and deaths.

It looks like he moved on, or perhaps enlisted for WW1  ???

Hi Eric

The National Archives of Australia, amongst its defence service records, has an entry for ...

LEES - F. R.  -- Place of birth, Manchester, England

[No further info available in the index listing. ]

There is though a 6-page file for this man which you can download from the Archives site.   Information is scant and the final page entitled "Report of A Deserter from ... " has faint writing which is very difficult to read.   :(

Eric, have you discounted the Frank Lee and his wife who travelled Plymouth to Wellington, 9 Nov 1911 on board Tainui? His occ given as clerk and hers' as wife. Are they on the 1911 census?

Thanks John, Lucy and Alan.

He may have put Manchester as his place of birth so I will work on that one.

I can't find a suitable match on the 1911 Census but from his parent's Census, I assume he still alive. The sailing to New Zealand seems the nearest option. I don't think he would have been a clerk either.

Thanks Eric

Very interesting, Lucy.

The only F R registered in Lancashire and Cheshire over that period is Frank Robert. The age looks to be a year out but that doesn't mean much.

Perhaps he didn't make it to New Zealand or didn't settle and moved to Australia.

Appears to be something added to the top of page 5-looks like Cancelled, but can't make the rest out.

Might try and repost it to see if it means anything to anyone.

althea-I don't have a*y-are there any details on the registration card?

Thanks Eric.
