John and Sarah Jones Forge Cych Mill Manordivy
« on: Monday 09 April 12 21:49 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am very stuck researching John and Sarah Jones (nee Evans) who worked Forge Cych Mill Manordivy from c1871 - c1925.

There are many namesakes for marriage c1871/2 and I dont know where to start really.

I have located Sarah's parents as Enoch and Dianiah but I dont know John Jones and again not sure how to rule out namesakes.

Any help or advice would be HUGELY welcomed.

Thanks

Bee

Hello Bee

Welcome to Rootschat :)

I managed to find John & Sarah on  the census.

I looked on freebmd
Found this marriage

Sarah Evans
John Jones

June q 1872
Newcastle E
11b 23

Newcastle Emlyn registration district covers the areas John & Sarah came from.

If you apply for their marriage Cert it maybe an idea to state Sarah`s fathers name.

Hope this helps

Kind regards

Thanks for that, youre very kind to look for me.

I had looked them up on marriagebmd the Ancestory.co.uk website has but I found a possible 7 matches (all John Jones marrying Sarah Evans) in 1871 and 1872 in Newcastle Emlyn, hence my confusion. I looked on the site you mentioned and I could only see a John Jones registered with the details. How do you know it was to Sarah Evans? (sorry i am probably missing something very obvious here)

I will follow that up with the Reg office before I order, good idea to check about her father's name first.

Thank you

I either look up BMD on freebmd or FindMyPast.

the only John Jones I can see in Capel Colman of around the right age is this one. Wonder if he moved there at a very young age & so thought he was born there?

1851 Bachandre, Chapel Colman HO107/2482 folio 5 pg 3
David Jones head mar 55 farmer of 130 acres b. Carmarthenshire, Trelech
Ann wife 50 b. Carms, Llangeler
Walter H son 21 b. Pembs, Llanfyrnach
Samuel son 19 b. Llanfyrnach
Mansel P son 17 b. Llanfyrnach
Morris son 16 b. Llanfyrnach
Elizabeth dau 11 b. Llanfyrnach
James son 9 b. Llanfyrnach
John Jones grandson 2 b. Carmarthenshire
Lettice Jones 24 servant b. Kilrhedin

same family are in Llanfyrnach in 1841, farm called Ffynnonhalen HO107/1466/13 folio 5 pg 2 and there are 2 older sons, Jonathan enumerated as 15 and David as 14.

1871 Bachendre, Chapel Colman RG10/5544 folio 135 pg 2
David Jones head widower 78 farmer of 135 acres employing 1 lab b. Carmarthenshire, Trelech
John grandson 20 farm servant b. Trelech
Mansel grandson 14 farm servant b. Trelech
Judith Thomas 23 dairy maid b. Cardiganshire
Elizabeth Williams 20 servant b. Chapel Colman

Mansel may be a brother to John, but could just as easily be a cousin.

Thanks Osprey, that's very helpful indeed.  I cant believe how much help I am getting!

I have tried searching the 1871 census though and cant find the information you have given me. I don't know why its not coming up for me?

Looking at dates i think its possible that any of Jonathan, David,  Walter or Samuel may have fathered John.

DO you have any ideas how I can confirm this lineage?

I am just using ancestruy.co.uk really but there appears to be lots of information I am missing out on.

Thanks again
Bee

Try as I may I can not get my head round the timeline shown in all the information above ~ put it down to drugs drugs and more drugs (prescribed only).

I have found the following but may well be way out ;

Enoch Evans mrd Deyhana Harris at Clydau 04 June 1835.

I currently can not find any established church baptism to fit, and wonder if they where non-conformist at Star Chapel.
