Robert Biggs - Baptism 1802
« on: Tuesday 10 April 12 16:44 BST (UK) »
Hello

I am trying to find the baptism for Robert Biggs born circa 1802 in Berkshire

Robert Biggs is listed on the census with the following birth places and years of birth

1841
Living in; St Giles in the Fields, Middlesex
Year of Birth: abt 1796
born in county: No
HO107/733/9/12

1851
Living in: St Giles in the Fields, Middlesex
year of birth: abt 1806
where born: Bracknell, Berkshire
HO107/1509/412/59

1861
Living in:  St Anne, Middlesex
Year of Birth: abt 1803
Where born: Warfield, Berkshire
RG 9/176/93/38

1861
Living in:  St Anne, London
ear of Birth: abt 1803
Where born:   Warfield, Berkshire
RG10/144/24/3

He Married Sarah Croydon on 5 Aug 1849 his father is showing on the marriage cert as Robert Biggs

I carried out a search in IGI and found the following baptism which does fit:-
name:   Robert Biggs
gender:   Male
baptism/christening date:   18 Apr 1802
baptism/christening place:   WARFIELD,BERKSHIRE,ENGLAND
father's name:   Robert Biggs
mother's name:   Siserah
indexing project (batch) number:   P01968-1
system origin:   England-ODM
source film number:   88472

The mothers name does interest me, Siserah, could this be an interesting transcription of Cecilia?
I only ask as one of the witnesses to Robert and Sarah's marriage was a William Biggs (possibly brother?) and there was a William Biggs born a few years earlier and along the road in Binfield to a Robert & Cecilia Biggs.

Name:   William Biggs
Gender:   Male
Birth Date:   abt 1797
Christening Date:   19 Mar 1797
Christening Place:   Binfield, Berkshire, England
Father's Name:   Robert Biggs
Mother's Name:   Cecilia

Does anyone have access to the Parish registers for Warfield to look up the actual baptism for me ?

Regards

Emma

Can't help with the baptism, but there is a marriage for Robert Biggs and Cecilia Payne at All Saints Binfield 12 Jul 1789.

On FamilySearch.org I can see other baptisms to Robert and Cecilia:

Robert 1789 Binfield
Elizabeth 1790 Binfield
Martha 1792 Binfield
Elizabeth 1794 Sunninghill
William 1797 Binfield
Mary 1799 Binfield
Sarah 1804 Saint James R.C. Reading Robt/Cicily Payne

Strangely, your Robert 1802 Warfield only shows if I go through the old IGI!

I think it's a very strong liklihood that Siserah is Cecilia, but as you rightly say someone really needs to look at the original record.

It is also possible that the William mentioned above may not be the actual William that was the witness at for the marriage

Reason being that the other witness was an Isabella Biggs and I have found a William & Isabella Biggs in St Pancras London on the 1851 census and William is showing as born in Berks in abt 1817. On the census is their daughter Mary Ann and cousin James Biggs.

Williams Occupation is showing as a Coach maker as is Roberts on the Census returns.

It may well be that William is a Nephew or cousin of Roberts???

Hopefully someone will be able to confirm the baptism for me and then
