Census look up 1871- please
« on: Wednesday 18 May 05 13:09 BST (UK) »
Trying to locate name of father for Abraham T Jones 19 Oct 1868 Born at Ystalyfera.
Mother is  Esther Jones abt 1835 in 1881 census she is a widower living at 6 Beynons Row Llangwick.
At 18771 census there would be 3 children (Ann, Sarah & Abraham)- and another born 1872 so hopefully looking this census will give me the name of the father.
Thanks for any assistance.

Could this be them? Names of children and mum match, although Abrahams age is out by a year or so.....

Thanks - sure sounds like them though I have Abraham as being born Ystalyfera - and living in Llangwick in 1881 census.
I am in Australia so I have no idea if these places are close or the same etc. so would like some local help on this matter.
Thank you
Di

Couldnt find a "Llangwick" on autoroute, the closest spelling was "Llangiwg", which is less than 4 miles away from Ystalyfera.

Dont know how this place, Llangiwg is pronounced but maybe the enumerator spelt it how it sounds..... i'm sure some kind welsh person on here (or someone with more knowledge on wales than me!) will be able to confirm if this is one and the same place  :)

Catherine  :)
(looking at "llanguicke" from the 1871 censuses, I think they are all the same place, the enumerator is spelling them how he thinks they sound - Llanguicke, Llangwick, and hopefully the correct spelling - Llangiwg)

Hope I can help. I speak Welsh and was brought up in Pontardawe. Llangiwg is the parish church for the area and is on top of the hill above Pontardawe, about six miles from Swansea. Ystalyfera, where I went to school, is about four miles up the valley again. I noticed 'Alltygrug' ( heather hill) on the first reply. Alltygrug is on the hillside above Ystalyfera.
Hope it helps
