Carr and Donaldson families
« on: Saturday 14 April 12 22:42 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Researching the Carr and Donaldson family at the moment.  Have looked for baptism and marriage records including South Africa and UK with no luck. So hoping the following names might be familiar to someone or match their family tree.

George Shallock Carr born about 1881 died 1955 Johannesburg, South Africa. Married Gertrude nee Donaldson born 26th September 1884 Cape Town died 1975 Johannesburg, SA.  Gertrude was related to the Bensimon's via her mother Mary Schubert.

Thanking you in advance.

Hello there. I am Nicky Bensimon and I have done a lot of research on our family tree and would be very interested to compare notes with you regarding this family. Mary Schubert must have been the daughter or granddaughter of one of my great great grandmothers (Frederica Schubert who married Samuel Bensimon) brothers. Frederica had 3 brothers - Lodewyk Christiaan Schubert, Heinrich Johan Schubert & Carl Johan Schubert, all born in the 1840's in CT. I have to date been able to find no info pertaining to these 3 men at all, and am thus very interested to know how Mary was related to them?

 Hi Nicky,

Thanks for replying.  Still looking for Mary's baptism record which will obviously assist the search.

So I will keep you updated.

Regards, :)

My GG grandmother Frederica and all her siblings were all baptised in the Lutheran church in Cape Town in the 1840's so theres a chance their children were also baptised there? I can only find one of them on familysearch.org website and that was because she married a Dutch man and their kids were baptised in the DRC. So presumably that means the others did not convert to the DRC church after marriage. I managed to get the info I have from a researcher at Gisa (Lorna Olivier) but she charges for her services like a wounded bull, but if you're really keen to see a copy of the baptism certificate for Mary you could try her. Check the Gisa website for her email address. If Mary was baptised in the Anglican church it would have been St Georges Cathedral (most likely) and if you know the exact birth date you can ask one of their researchers to find you a copy (this will take a bit of time but I know its do-able). Wits University in Johannesburg are the curators for the Anglican church archives for S.Africa. Please let me know if you find out anything about Mary (sounds like a movie title?)!
