COMPLETED WITH THANKS - VIC BDM lookups please MORRIS
« on: Monday 16 April 12 01:52 BST (UK) »
James Morris b. c1810, his wife Jane (nee Jones) b. c1812 and family came to Victoria, from London, England on board the Sir Robert Sale, arriving 30 May 1850.

The children were James b. c1835, Ann b. c1836, Jane b. 1838, Emily b. 1839 and William b. c1846

I'm hoping some kind soul would be able to look up deaths for me, using the parents' names.  I know Emily died in 1924 (married name Connell) so don't need any more information about her.  I have previously been helped tremendously in finding information about her.

I imagine the deaths of the parents, not knowing their parents' names may prove too difficult, although if Jane has her maiden name noted, it is a possibility.
EDIT - there is a death in Trove of a Jane, wife of James Morris aged 56 in 1867.  This would fit.  Could someone please check on the death index to see if a maiden name was given?

Cheers
Alison

Could be the  death of James, if the death you found is of his wife. The connection I base this on is that both were of Mornington.

Thanks Jamjar

It's looking more like my couple; both ages fit.  I've also found a marriage of that couple's eldest son, James.  My couple also had also had an eldest son James, which of course given the time and the name is not exceptional, but the coincidences are stacking up.

Cheers,
Alison  :)

Hi Alison

MORRIS James
died 1875  age 66 years
Birth Place: London
Father:  James   Mother:  Ann  Unknown
Reg#1225

There is a will you can view at http://prov.vic.gov.au
for this James Morris.
Mentions children Elizabeth Ann, Jane Elizabeth, Ann, James Thomas, Emily Jane Connell
(maybe more - I just quickly scanned through)

Looks like he may have remarried as his wife is named as Alice Morris

Hi Alison

A couple of things are a little baffling for me  ???

IF the death of James Morris is the one found in 1875 - which seems that it is
given that he mentions his daughter Emily Jane Connell -
who is the daughter named in his will as Elizabeth Ann MORRIS?

His will is dated 9/4/1871 and he "appoints my said wife Alice Morris
guardian of the person and estate of my said daughter
Elizabeth Ann Morris during her minority"
Assuming she is under 21 years in 1871 - when and where was she born?

and where is the son William?  He is not mentioned in the will

Possible remarriage for James

MORRIS  James (born London)
LAMBERT Alice
1871
Reg#1022

Just some things to ponder  ;D

Hi Raylen,

The will was the first I'd heard of Elizabeth Ann.  My guess would be that she is Alice's daughter, born somewhere around the time of James and Alice's marriage (1871).  Does she have a birth record? If not, could she be Alice's daughter and James' stepdaughter?

As for William, I've tried Trove with no success.

Thanks also to Mariona for your help with Ann and Jane.  I've found Ann's death in Trove, along with her hubby's name.  :D

Cheers,
Alison  ???
