Confusion reigns

I've just had a quick check on FreeBMD to see if I could fill in the maiden name of a Great granduncle's wife, Elizabeth.

Lets see who James Howcroft married in the right period and area - only 4 entries returned - should be easy.

Two of them have no Elizabeth.

The other two mention:
    Elizabeth Jane Isherwood
and
    Elizabeth Alice Isherwood.

I wonder if somebody ended up spliced to the wrong spouse? Did he find out the mistake, divorce and wed the right girl two years later?

At least I'm pretty sure of the maiden name!
