Hi,

I've hit my brick wall, and I'm hoping one or more of you can help shed light on it for me, or even knock it down!

To cut to the chase: I've traced my Orr ancestry back as far as Robert Orr b. abt 1866, his father James Orr (birth year unknown) and his father William.

Robert married a Jane STEVENSON. James married an Isabella WHITE on the 9th of June 1849 in St Mark's Church of Ireland, Newtownards.

William and James were both listed as weavers on James' marriage record.

1. William Orr = ?

  2. James Orr = Isabella WHITE

    3. Robert Orr (1866 - Co. Down) = Jane STEVENSON

      4.1 James Orr (1892 - 1970 - Barrow-in-Furness)
      4.2 Robert Orr (1894 - 1974 - Newtownards)
      4.3 Anna Orr (1896 - ?)
      4.4 Jane Orr (1898 - ?)
      4.5 Maggie (1900 - ?)

      4.2 Robert Orr = Maggie McCAULEY

        4.2.1 James... Bertie.. Harry etc etc (10 children, all boys)


The law of averages maybe suggests that James was born around 1840 and his father William was born around 1815, but I know I can't really count on that of course.

not sure if it helps but IGI have the following record for a Robert Orr(,father William Orr), married a Jane McClune,19 NOV 1857   Newtown Ards, Down, Ireland
grooms age 28, brides age 30

Hey, thanks Jim. :)

I remember seeing records for those people and, for some reason I cannot remember now, ruling them out. I've taken a break in my research, and I can't remember 'where I was', if you follow me!

However, I think it's always worth a second look, and I'm kinda starting anew anyway. I'll post back here once I've verified or dismissed any immediate connection to my line.

That could be today, or next month, mind you, depending on how much free time I get! :)
