Neath Road, Briton Ferry
« on: Friday 20 April 12 22:59 BST (UK) »
We have an ancestor named Frederick William Farmer Card who was born in Briton Ferry on 13 November 1890. The place of birth, on the Birth Certificate looks like OATS VILLA, or OATO VILLA.    The Census of 1891 shows the family address as 224 Neath Road.
Can anyone tell me if Oats Villa or, maybe, Oates Villa (an historic name in the area) is correct for that house number?.
TIA

Hello Jan  :)

Just checked the 1901 census, and at 224 Neath Road was Oak Villa, occupied by W B Harry, a Surgeon. Also John C Davies ,a Medical Student, boarder, and Margaret Bowen, a Housekeeper

Thank you, Morganllan, for your prompt reply and the photo -what a bonus!
I love this site - people are so helpful and often go the extra mile to find answers.   It is wonderful to reach people "on the spot" to check things out. Not always easy when you are in the middle of Canada!
Hoping to visit the (literally) "Land of my Fathers" in September.
Regards, Jan
