Hi Cider Drinker

Many thanks for your posting and help

Great news: So I am looking for a Will for 1819 approx  - you were previously really helpful in identifying Prudence's burial 1823 - so if only I could find this will unless Intestate?

I checked the index of London Wills held at the LMA but there weren't any obvious entries.

Dear Dawn

Many thanks for looking -

One thing is certain: Thomas's son George, my ancester and his son William who married in the same year as Thomas's death 1819, would be mentioned in the Will (if one was made) as well as his wife Prudence who was alive until 1823 - maybe made sole executor

Given the age at death, I suppose Thomas may have made his will several years before?

So, I am looking back from 1819/20 to say 1780s?

Thanks again

Steve

Wills only turn up in the records when they have been probated AFTER death.

If a will was written and kept as a personal document but not proved then you won't it in any of the calendars either nationally or locally available.

Hi Dawn

Many thanks for your help and advice

Dawn, do you feel that if, around 1819/ 1820 there is no Probate/ Will then there isn't any?

Many thanks

Steve

Hi Steve

Valda has written an in-depth guide to London wills here

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,403339.0.html

If you have checked all the possible sources for a will she suggests and nothing shows up then it seems certain he did not leave a valid will.

Thanks Dawn

It looks like a blank - I know that Thomas was a beneficiary in his father's, Daniel's will of 1770 - but no such luck with Thomas

Thanks for your help and advice

Steve
