Thanks very much to all concerned for your brilliant answers to my post.
Elias Marsh is not named on the list of the marchers that arrived at Parliament.
I must say that this does not particularly surprise me. As far as I can make out Elias' son the late Ramsey Marsh, who apparently spread this tale about, was said to be at best a fantastic story teller and at worst a liar.
Which of course does not disprove that Elias took part in any of the marches which apparently took place amongst other groups.
Upon reading through the links provided there are some street names in the addresses of the marchers the that ring bells, in my consciousness so to speak, as two of them are streets where members of the Marsh family used to live. Only these addresses were not in Jarrow. I would like to ask if anybody knows whether or not the addresses show in the link were in Jarrow or elsewhere in the region?
James Allison - 26 Stanley Street Back
Thomas Downey - 46 Stanley Street
Thomas Convery - 31 Stanley Street
Also, Elias probably had other members of his family or friends that were living in Chester le Street and his association with the place helped in the twisting of the facts to help his cause or raison d'etre, which like many of those who were unfortunate enough to be in the region at the time, was survival.
Furthermore, on the same tack, Elias' (1895-1960) wife Lily (married circa 1920) was a Brown and it is possible that the Brown's mentioned vis; Martin Brown - 3 South Street , John Brown - 72 Ferry Street , S. Brown - 14 Blenkinsop Grove were related to here and somehow the story has become sufficiently twisted through the years to become that which was told to me.
It could also be that Elias was involved with the other marches alluded to in the links.
Is anybody aware of any specific links to these?
