George Garfoot
« on: Friday 27 April 12 16:17 BST (UK) »
Would anyone look up the death of George Garfoot for me please?  1st Q 1893.  I'm trying to establish his birth (abt 1826/27) as it is not included in any birth records.  In various other records he gives St Mary, Nottingham as his place of birth.  Alas!  There's no record there.  Neither have I been able to trace his father, supposedly callled Boyfield Garfoot.

Many thanks,

Lesley

English death certificates only give age at death at this time, no date of birth. (Index says 66)

Thank you for the several (very prompt!) replies.  Yes, there's lots of Info about George after 1851 and I have collected a pretty good outline of his life from various records.

He had two marriages (one in Nottingham and one in Cork) on both certs he gives his father's name as Boyfield Garfoot.  His YoB is taken from census reports.  Can't find him in the 1841 census, but he was imprisoned in Lincolnshire for 5 months in 1946.

I've not been able to trace my mother's side of the family back any further than 1946.  My gggrandmother was his second wife.  I have details of their marriage, but not of her parents.  My ggrandmother (Lydia) was born in Malta.

I looked through the parish records about 4 years ago when I was visiting Nottingham, but couldn't find George or Boyfield.  I was wondering if getting a copy of his death cert might help, but you answered my question (thank you Rosie), clearly the answer is no!

I've been doing a little more research since my last post and have found a Jane Garfoot born Nottingham abt 1801.    (I think she was 'removed' to South Stoke, Lincolnshire in 1827)  but she may have married William Coulson St Mary's, Nottingham 14 Oct 1834.  In the 1841 census (there's no George Garfoot or any variations of Garfoot that I can think of) there's a Jane Coulson living at Burdett Court, St Mary, Nottingham with her son George born abt 1826.  Jane's not in the 1851 or subsequent census reports.

I think I might just be lucky here.   :-\

I wondered if anyone would be able to look up the birth record for Jane and/or marriage record and see if there is any other family info given?

Many thanks,
