Good evening,

Your lucky day is here, check out these photo's starting with an end view of black rock house. Just keep clicking on next to see them all, it's the left hand one in all the frontal pics. http://regencysociety-jamesgray.com/volume23/source/jg_23_161.html

PS I don't know why its called rottingdean as it was closer to brighton above where the marina is now.

PPS The large building in the distance is roedean school for girls, rottingdean is several miles further on.

Hi William
Black Rock House served as a convalescent hospital from around 1890 to the early 1900s. It was demolished in 1929. Although on the boundary with Brighton, the property was described as being located in Rottingdean (in answer to John915) since that parish extended west from the village along the entire coastal portion.
I attach an early photo I was fortunate to acquire.

Good evening,

Thanks for that info Welesmere. A good place to convalesce, on the edge of a cliff, overlooking stormy seas but right next door to the pub. What could be better apart from living in the pub.
