Family Travel India, UK, Hong Kong?
« on: Sunday 29 April 12 13:15 BST (UK) »
My Grandfather Sgt Herbert Gray, RA went to India aboard HMS Devenshire in 1931.   I know his family Dorothy (1899), Herbert(1924) and John (1929) also lived in India.    I can find no trace of the family going there.

I always thought that they moved directly to Hong Kong from India but have just come into possession of a Coronation book dated 1937 addressed to Mrs H Gray in Larkhill, Wilts.  Did they all come back to the UK?

They were in Hong Kong from (I believe) 1938 until Sgt Gray died there in June 1939

BW252 - I don't know if the families of service personnel were treated differently, but not all passenger lists are online (TNS says the "majority" have survived for this period). There are movements of people I've looked at that don't match up (more journeys in one direction than the other, though end up where they started) so either there some missing or some poor transcriptions etc.
