King Family
« on: Sunday 29 April 12 18:59 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for information on my Family who originate from Ireland possibly County Galway. My G/Father John King b 1870/2 left Ireland & settled in Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland where he married Mary Ann Coyne b 1872/3 ( also born in Ireland ) in Loanhead, Midlothian RC Church. John's parents were Stephen King & Sarah Folan and Mary Ann's were Michael Coyne deceased before 1891 & Margaret Coyne who lived with her daughter in Scotland.
If anyone can shed some light on the family I shall be extremely grateful. Time spent in Dublin records office was unsuccessful so any help is appreciated.

There are quite a few John King births in Ireland around the dates you mentioned - over 100, and unfortunately a parent search on the extracted records doesn't show any matches for John or any siblings

see : John King, 1869-1873

Do you have any idea where in Ireland your Kings lived ?

p.s. do you have Margaret Coyne's maiden name ?

there's a possible match in Co. Galway, slightly earlier than your dates. Mother's first name is Sally which is a pet name for Sarah...and surname is Tolan, which might be a mistranscription...

  name: John King
  birth date: 11 Jun 1869
birthplace: Roundstone No 1 (sub district), Co. Galway
Parents:    Stephen King & Sally Tolan
  Ref : 222 (register page)

Thank you Shane information very helpful. I did find the Stephen King/ Sally Folan link and did wonder if there was an error in the transcript hence my post on Galway site. Your info on the pet name makes it worth chasing up, which I shall do through GRO Roscommon.
I respect of Margaret Coyne's maiden name. I'm not sure although I have found a possible link showing the birth of Ann Coyne to Michael Coyne & Margaret O'Hora or maybe should be O'Hara.

Thanks again,

Peter

If it is of any help, we found a Stephen King, Roundstone in Griffiths Valuation while searching for the brothers of my ancestor Michael King, we thought he could possibly be a brother, and we keep getting emails regarding John King his son to see if he is related. We also have a sister to Michael , Mary Ann King. That is a far as we got so far! Anne Ryan

Hi
If anyone comes across a Margaret King born Connemara area about 1859, father called Hugh King please let me know.
I found a Hugh King in the Griffiths Valuation living in Claddaghduff, which might be him.  The only thing I know about him is that he was a tailor and was deceased by 1878.
