William Higgins and Letitia McCartney Marriage
« on: Sunday 29 April 12 19:15 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for the marriage record of William Higgins and Letitia McCartney, possibly of Glenavy.  I found RC baptismal records for 4 of their children: Catherine 1851, Charlotte 1853 (both in Glenavy), William 1859, and Sarah 1861 (both at St Patrick's in Belfast).  I'm also looking for other children born to them.  Ancestryireland's index doesn't have the marriage record or any other of their children in their index of Down and Antrim records.

Does anybody know how the records for RC baptisms are indexed?  For example, would the index for baptisms and marriages used by Ulster Historical Foundation be the same as other websites or have they been indexed separately over the years?

Also, has anybody had any luck contacting the actual church for the records?  I discovered that they don't respond to email... ???

Thanks!

Regarding the actual church- many clergymen are extremely busy and have more than one congregation to look after, the records are unlikely to be indexed (and they may not have the records themselves),
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you aghadowey!  I didn't think the church would have them indexed, but at some time the UHF indexed them.  I was just wondering if there are others who may have indexed them.

My gggrandmother was Anna Higgins.  She was very close to William and Letitia's known children which I listed earlier (they were godparents to her children and vice versa, they lived together when they first came to the US, etc.), and I know from Anna's marriage record in Belfast that her father's name was William.  So I believe that Anna is also William and Letitia's daughter but I can't find her baptismal record.  I'm hoping that the record wasn't lost and was just missed somehow in the transcription or something.

I mentioned indexing in reference to clergymen not replying to queries.
It's not uncommon for baptisms to be 'missing' in a register- probably due to details not being recorded at the time.

Thanks again!

Yes, it may in fact be lost but I have another ancestor who was missed in a transcription and I found her by looking at the actual church records, so I'm hoping that Annie really is there somewhere!   :)
