Do you have any more info to help people to look for you. I have seen one Jane Spriggs  born Bristol 1848 on the 1861 census, living in Middlesex. Could this be yours?

Sorry, I really have no more information on Miss Spriggs.  She married a William East at some point and is listed as his wife in the 1881 census, as follows:

Jane East, wife, 41, Bristol

Free BMD shows a marriage of both William East and Jane Spriggs in Oct-Dec 1858 in Bristol, but the references differ. Williams is 6a 176 & Janes is 6a 196

My reason for looking for Jane Spriggs before her marriage is this:  Jane and her husband William East "adopted" my g grandmother. May Augusta Marshall, (b 1869, Bristol) when she was very young.  Family legend says that the Marshall family was relatively wealthy and in some way connected to the gov't.  Presumably, May Augusta was an inconvenient illegitimate addition.  It occurred to me that the Marshalls might have placed May Augusta with someone they knew, such as a former servant, so I wanted to find Jane Spiggs before she married to see if by any chance she was working as a servant in some Marshall household.
