Mary Ann Lee
« on: Wednesday 02 May 12 07:09 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I've hit a wall in a search for my great, great Grandmother, maiden name Mary Ann Lee, who left County Cavan in the late 1890's for the US.  I believe she was born between 1870 and 1874.  I know that may have been a common name but any help would be greatly appreciated.  I can tell you that she married James C Foreman in the US but I am not certain of the year.

Thank you!

Welcome to Rootschat.

Any idea when Mary Ann went to America? Where did she and James marry and where did they live?

The more details we have the easier it will be to find more information for you.

Thank you Tara!

James C. Foreman was born in Pennsylvania.  Mary Ann came to the states in the mid 1890's (not 100% sure about that) and called New York her home initially which is where she met James.  They eventually settled down in Indianapolis.  I vaguely remember my Grandfather referring to her home in Ireland as being called Strode, County Cavan and that her home was located close to a lake or small body of water.  Mary Ann was raised Catholic.  Someone told me that her mothers maiden name was either McMahon or Kennedy.

Thank you!

JT Foreman

I think that might be Stradone, Cavan but am not sure how near that is to water.

Or there is a Straide, but that's Mayo.

I did see a Mary Lee born 1874, father Patrick mother Mary Kennedy but that was in County Wicklow.

I also saw a Mary Lee born 1878, father John mother Mary Kennedy but that was in County Limerick.

It's a shame there are no more clues from her American paperwork as she was born in Ireland when there are records available for.

Oh well, maybe you will stumble across a lead soon.

Tara

Stardone town is close to Lisnanagh Lough - about half a km.

see : Stradone   (OSI Maps)

the surname Lee is quite common in the area, I spotted at least 8 births for Mary, or Mary Ann Lee in the county between 1870 and 1874 in extracted records... so I think you'd need some family details to be certain of any match.
