Looking for Roberts family
« on: Friday 04 May 12 11:12 BST (UK) »
Hi, my grandfather's brother Ernest Roberts emigrated to the U S on 14th May 1908 sailing on the "Arabic" from Liverpool to meet his fiance Emily in Saginaw, Mich. They married at Saginaw and they had 3 sons. I found them on the 1910, Fed' census at Saginaw, 1920 at Knox City, Indiana, and 1930 at Cook County, Illinois. I believe Ernest died 13th Aug 1970 and Emily on 28th June 1974 both at San Diego, Cal. I was hoping that the 1940 census would reveal the whereabouts of the sons, but it is not indexed yet. Can anyone direct me as to where I might be able to search search now. Thank you, Tarblonka

Hi Tarblonka,

If the family still lived in Illinois in 1940,  there is a way to convert the 1930 enumeration district to the 1940 one which could be worth a try. Looking back at the previous thread the WW2 Darft had them in Illinois - dated 27 Apr. 1942 - Ernest Thomas Roberts b. 13 Apr. 1884 in Durham, England, living at 3007 N. Kostner, Chicago, Illinois.

Remember we had no luck tracing the sons last time.  Unfortunately there were no Michigan or Indiana birth records to help us with the sons and the mothers maiden name didn't seem to pop up on the California death indexes for the sons.  :(

Hi Sandra, I found and downloaded the page from the 1940 census. The eldest son George H Roberts wasn't at that address. Hopefully he could be somewhere nearby with a wife and kid/kids who could be living relatives. Thanks again, Tarblonker :-*
