So sad, especially when taking in the last bit of information.

Husband Richard is not noted as deceased.  Is there any significance in this?

Finally only one loose end to tie up and that is the son Richard; bearing in mind the possible sighting with that death at Terrigal it may be that I shall have to close the chapter with another sad end to the last of the Mays!  :'(

Tony

Oh Tony, so many babies and only one alive at her side.

I am on e reader and we are not home until late this evening so I am not near my fh material.  Sometimes in that era the spouse would be noted if already deceased and sometimes not noted although he/she had already passed away.

I think we need to help find a headstone.  I think the C of E was/is Stt Thomas BUT  I need to check as that is memory and thus suspect.

I will be checking tomorrow for you.  There are RChatters with good understanding of where to find MI transcripts for the cemeteries on the Lower North Shore.

What I do notice is that Richard, her son, did not know his Grandparents given names so perhaps his Dad was not there to provide the information and perhaps that is a clue.

Cheers from Clunky and Sad JM Please excuse spellings and grammar. 2 finer typing is not my forte.

Hi Tony, well the cemetery that Jm said St Thomas's is in Milsons Point but there is no MI for anyone by the name of May. That is not to say that she wasn't buried there, just no marker maybe.

There is the other cemetery at Nth Shore IE near the Hospital at St leonards, I will see if there are any MI's for there.

Neil

MODIFIED.... Nothing on the North Shore Website. :'(

Hi there,

This is the C of E Church I mentioned yesterday

http://www.st-thomas.org.au/index.html

http://www.australiancemeteries.com/nsw/nthsydney/stthomas.htm

On one of the pages there's a note about additional information and the contact details include :

Additional information may also be obtained from:

Email: infodesk[substitute the AT sign please Tony] northsydney.nsw.gov.au

Fingers crossed yet again, because I have checked and checked and either I need fresh eyes OR I am having senior moment, but NO ONE by surname MAY was in Milson St/Lane etc by 1892 .....  :(

I wonder if Richard, the son, 'went to sea' .....

I dont know but this may be worth a try?

Gore Hill Memorial Cemetery is situated on the Pacific Highway in St Leonards with the entrance in Westbourne Street. Established in 1868, it is one of the oldest and largest general cemeteries remaining in the Sydney Metropolitan Area. Many of the pioneers of Sydney's North Shore are buried in the cemetery and there is a monument to Mary McKillop who was buried there from 1909 to 1914. The last burial in Gore Hill took place in 1974, but the cemetery is still open for the deposition of ashes. Gore Hill Memorial Cemetery was established as a historic site with the Gore Hill Memorial Cemetery Act in 1986, and was given State Heritage Status in 2001.  The cemetery is managed by a trust appointed by the NSW Government.

If you are seeking the location of a grave, it is strongly recommended that you contact the Cemetery Trust on 0412 327 293 or PO Box 381, Artarmon NSW 1570

Thanks JM and Neil.  :)

I managed to get into the Gore Hill site but found not one single MAY as a surname.  :(

I shall have a look around today but having already covered any possibility of Richard Henry marrying or fathering children it looks like the end of the line for the May family.  In all probability that death in Terrigal with that link to Milson's Point is the last sighting.

I am not sure whether it is worth looking any further but on the off chance that someone might come up with something I shall leave the thread open for the time being.

May I thank all the very kind people that have helped me in what has turned out to be such a sad search.  :'(

Best wishes and happy hunting to everyone,
Tony  ;D

I wonder if young Richard would have gone to or contacted his Aunts in Vic after his Mums death? Or to NZ or how he and his Dad proceeded to where ever?

Yes please leave open for a while yet.

Cheers JM
