Deirdre - if you're at all interested in architecture there's a lot out there about St Giles RC as it was designed by Pugin and is highly regarded - it pops up on TV for that reason. I have to admit before your query I didn't know the C of E church was also St Giles (how to confuse)!
I can't say I'm interested in architecture but had a good read of the church website and its history. Definitely on our list of places to visit when we have time (or retired!).
By coincidence I was in Cheadle to day (hunting ancestors) and visited both the Catholic St Giles and the C of E parish church St Giles the Abbot. Very confusing having two churches of virtually the same name. My Guess would be that the marriage took place at the Parish church given the dates
Hope you had a good day! Shame about the marriage though - it would have been nice to tell my mum that her great grandparents were married in the RC church (the family was defintely Catholic... their eldest child was Thomas Augustine and his children were Percy Thomas, Winifred Mary, Alban Leo and Dorothy Agnes).
Just another confusing link in family history!
Deirdre
