The Sax Horn Inn Beerhouse, Tipton

I understand that 36 Coppice Street, Tipton was a former family house which was licenced to be used as a beerhouse. I have learned that a gentleman by the name of John Henry Walker became the licensee there in 1905 & it has been suggested to me that it was possibly members of the Walker family who ran it until it closed down possibly in the 1970's.
Does anyone know any information about the Sax Horn Inn during this period of time please? I would like if possible to learn of who the licences were issued to & when the beerhouse finally closed down.
Thank you.

Hi there,
I know it took a while but I've been to Smethwick archives and had a look for you.
Sax Horn  36 Coppice Street only had a beer house licence.Original licencee Job Allen 1871-1881.Others Henry Ward 1896-1900 and John Henry Walker 1905.
There was an objection to the renewal of the licence in 1903 on the grounds it was insanitary, lacked accomodation and  was difficult for the police to supervise.Nevertheless it was granted but Hitchmough suggests it  shut by the first World War which doesn't match with your info that it lasted to the 70's.

Brilliant info, thank you so much. I was obviously told incorrect info that it survived until the 1970's. Your info would make more sense though cos I would have thought that those old properties would have been declared as slums & would have been replaced by the 70's.
Thank you so much.

Hello treefan,

Coppice Street was cleared in the mid 1930s, it's nothing like it used to be.
