Hello again

The only John Dicks I can find is this one

3 Bromley Street
Nottingham

John Dicks 18 Lodger Brickmaker born Nottingham

The Head of the family was Mary Stevenson Wid aged 59

If you know who is father was I will check the 1841 census for him and hopefully he will still be living at home.

Thanks sunflower, hopefully that is the Emma Skidmore I am looking for. I have sent for the marriage cert & only hope it is the one I'm looking for. It will then be  process of elimination. I only have army records of John Dicks & that is that he enlisted in the army in 1854 & spent most of his time out of the country, dying in India in 1874. I am so greatful for any help.

Sunflower I re read your message & it sounds quite promising as Emma named one of her daughters Harriet so it could be after her Mother.    Winette

Hi sunflower, the certificate has arrived & it is the Emma Skidmore & John Dicks that were on the 1851 census only he was Isaac John & was a brickmaker, he must not have used the name Isaac. Both were under age, his father was William Edwin Dicks & was deceased. It sounds as if is my family if I can find out where they were or weren't  in 1861 as I am sure that John Dicks was in China with the army & I doubt very much if Emma would have gone there. Many thanks

Hi Winette

I can find only one Emma Dicks in the 1861 census that fits with the age, but she is unmarried so don't think it is your Emma.
Had they any children by 1861?

Hello again

Don't answer that - I've just found these baptisms

William Dicks born 11.09.1852 bapt. 29.05.1853 to John & Emma Dicks (Skidmore) ( St. Barnabas)

John Joseph Dicks born 05.01.1855 bapt. 08.04.1855 to Isaac John and Emma Dicks (Skidmore)(St. Barnabas)

The entry for William is in twice

William 29.03.1853 to Isaac John & Emma Dicks William St. Brickmaker.  (St. Mary's)
